ANTI- PLASTIC DRIVE

IN THE JURISDICTION OF
 VILLAGE PANCHAYAT NAVELIM- SALCETE

OPERATION CLEAN- UP:  V.P. Navelim, Garbage Management Members, Mr. Anastasio Carneiro, Mrs. Benny Fernandes, Panch- Mr. Selwyn along with volunteers collecting road side plastic waste in Ward 10, Mandopa.

Village Panchayat Navelim & South Goa District Administration conducted Anti-Plastic Awareness and Cleanliness drive on 20^th April 2013. Village Panchayat Garbage Management Committee formed ward wise groups comprising of Senior citizen, School Scout- Guide and NCC students and youth. Before the drive one week earlier Local MLA & Minister for Labour and Fisheries, Shri. Avertano Furtado and V.P. Navelim, Sarpanch Shri. Frank Fernandes gave instructions to the ward members and Garbage Management Committee, in regard to anti Plastic Drive. The drive was co-ordinated by the Collector N D Agrawal and his Officers.

 

During  Panchayat Body & Garbage Management Committee meeting it is decided to impose complete ban on below 40 micron plastic carry bags in the village and also to book the violators under Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage Control Act, and to impose fine of Rs.5000/- for dumping Plastic waste & garbage in to the open public places. Same will be put up for the forth coming Gram Sabha meeting. People are made aware by the Village Panchayat Navelim, through various programmes held, to reduce the use of plastic carry bags and how to manage the house hold waste, particularly plastic Garbage.
